so where is the old mill?

Studio entranceThe Town Mill was built in the grounds of Strathaven castle around 1650 by the 2nd Duke of Hamilton. It was three storeys high with a thatched roof and large dam behind. In 1902, the granary was built on the Stonehouse Road and connected to the Mill by an aerial walkway. In the 1930's the Mill was converted to hydroelectricity and was officially re-opened in 1936 by Sir Harry Lauder. The Town Mill finally ceased production in 1966 and is now the local arts centre you see today.

Strathaven is a small town in central Scotland to the South of Glasgow, Hamilton and East Kilbride. it is 10 minutes from the M74 motorway, ten minutes from Larkhall railway stationa nd ten Minutes from Hamilton and East kilbride. This gives it an idylic setting combined with the convienience of being near to the major towns and transport links of South Lanarkshire. The Old Mill is located in Strathaven South Lanarkshire on Stonehouse Road.
